EVGE brings together the two locations of the Russian intervention in 2014: the war in Donbass and the occupation of Crimea. Crimean director Nariman Aliev tells the story of a father who attempts to bring the body of his son, who died in Donbass, from Kyiv to Crimea in order to have him buried there according to the rites of the Muslim Crimean Tatars. The arduous journey makes clear how the experience of the current war in the Ukraine evoke the suppressed story of the violence against the Crimean Tatars.
After the film, a conversation will take place between Tamila Tasheva (NGO CrimeaSOS; since April 2022, representative of the president of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) and Viktoria Leshchenko (program director of the DOCUDAYS UA Film Festival, Kyiv).

An event by the German Association for East European Studies and the Institute for East European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin together with the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin.
